Kelly Lake is community in the Peace River Country of northeastern British Columbia, Canada, located just west of the border with the province of Alberta.〔(BC Names entry "Kelly Lake (community)" )〕 The Kelly Lake Cree Nation (KLCN), the Kelly Lake First Nation (KLFN), and the Apetokosan Nation (Kelley Lake Métis Settlement Society) are three different groups claiming to speak for the Aboriginal community of the area. Who applied and received Indian status in 2001. The leaders of the Kelly Lake First Nation (KLFN),Claire Dean Gauthier and Lyle Edward Campbell aka Letendre also claims to be the leader of the Kelly Lake Metis Settlement Society (KLMSS) aka Apeetogosan Nation. The two individuals sought Indian status through the Saulteau Indian Band and were successful. The cousins had a falling out and Lyle Letendre formed the Kelly Lake Metis Settlement Society established a Territorial Affiliation Agreement with in February 2007 under the Metis Nation of British Columbia (MNBC) Governance Charter Agreement was revoked September 28, 2007 citing many discrepancies, notably the required Indian and Northern Affairs Canada form process through MNBC was not completed. Therefore, the Territorial Affiliation Agreement was revoked. Lyle Letendre acting on his own, with his own family, later would form the Apeetogosan Nation.
